Who we are

All our childhood dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them

This adventure began with our son’s fascination for insects.
When he was about three years old, he started collecting bugs everywhere — in parks, gardens, or anywhere our family went. He always carried small containers to catch and observe them closely.

Encouraged by his equally enthusiastic dad, the collection soon grew beyond the backyard. One day, my husband ordered a baby praying mantis from an online shop — our very first insect pet. We named him Giuseppe, and he quickly became part of our family. He lived with us for over a year, inspiring our son to overcome his fear of insects, to learn about their habits, what they eat, and how to care for them. Both father and son were equally captivated.

About two years ago, our little bug enthusiast started asking for more insect pets. I must admit — I wasn’t as thrilled about expanding our “bug family.” After all, we already had a large reef aquarium full of fish, corals, and marine creatures that also needed plenty of care.

Eventually, my husband decided to take things a step further and bought a spider — a baby one, of course. He and our son kept it a secret until almost the day it arrived. Needless to say, I wasn’t exactly over the moon when I heard the news. I agreed, somewhat reluctantly, that if it ever escaped its enclosure, it would be gone forever.

Little did I know that our home would soon turn into a mini zoo, filled with all kinds of insects.

Over time, a few more mantises joined the family. Our beloved Giuseppe eventually passed away of old age, and as the collection grew, my fear slowly faded. I found myself becoming more and more fascinated — and even fond — of each little creature that came to live with us.

When I first came up with the idea of creating a Bugs Zoo and Science Centre, my husband was skeptical that anyone else would be interested in visiting such a place. But the more I developed the concept — putting my ideas on paper and imagining how fun and educational it could be — the more convinced I became that it might just work.

I started sharing the idea with family and friends, gathering their thoughts and excitement.

Originally, our goal was to open a permanent location where visitors could explore the world of insects year-round. However, as we faced the challenges that come with such an ambitious project, we decided to start smaller — with event-based experiences.

And now, here we are — preparing to open our doors to the public and welcome everyone curious enough to explore this incredible, often overlooked world of insects.
